Back to School Media Kit It’s fair time all across the state of Idaho and soon after it will be time for kids to start back to school. As students head back to school with a packed lunch or money for a school meal, it’s time to think about how kids can get the most nutritional value from their meals. Milk is a nutritious food choice for breakfast, lunch and school snacks. With summer coming to a close and parents packing lunches for their children, it’s a good time to remind parents and children of the necessary steps in packing a safe lunch. These include always washing hands and keeping dairy products cold. Dairy farmers take great care to provide high-quality milk. Food safety is a top priority — from providing exceptional animal care to using technology that allows milk to be tested without ever touching human hands. Steps for food safety don’t end when milk leaves the farm or the store — everyone has a part in ensuring the food they give themselves and their family is safe. Once milk leaves the store shelf, it is important to keep it stored at 40 degrees or cooler to ensure quality and safety. At school, milk storage is temperature controlled. Students bringing a lunch from home are encouraged to either use a thermos for milk or purchase milk from the school cafeteria. Click here for more information.
